Indian Railways
Think of Indian Railways and I am sure all Indians will have a sense of nostalgia. As a kid traveling in trains was fun for me. However think of railway stations and you think of crowded market like places with a lot of filth around. But if things proceed correctly this could change. The Indian Railways is considering upgrading all major railway stations in India, and make them airport like. I hope it happens soon. Read here.

the public-private partnership again ...
but i still doubt the maintainability - seen the mumbai airport of-late? its awful
dont knw if the people are ready for world-class stuff
i dont think there willl be any maintainance problems, since it is ppp with build-operate-transfer, where in the company builds it operates for a period of 20-30 years and then transfers it tot he government. In this period of 20-30 years the private company gets its revenues from the project.
Day to day operation and maintainnance is in the hands of private company. I dont know when u last saw the mumbai airport, but I saw it first in aug 05 and then in jan 07, the second time there were visible changes, better organised, they also had a automated boarding pass kiosk which they didnt have before.
also the deadline for the complete makeover of the mumbai airport is like 2010 or something.
its almost a year that ive seen it - so maybe ... but apart from the operators - it is the indian junta who shld use it well - and i am skeptical abt that aspect
another example of ppp. after roads, railways and airports it is bus terminals.
