Aamir

Latest news on Aamir Khan is that, he is supporting the Narmada Cause. First thing that came to my mind is that, if he wants, he can join politics and do pretty well in it. Unlike other movie in stars in politics, he has indeed some good views, opinions and ability to do good work for the people. (What is govinda doing in politics? alternate carrier? Also has alleged links with the Underworld)

He, in the past too, had openly voiced his views on Iraq, and Gujrat. I then thought, if he is against the Narmada Dam thing, just because of him being anti Modi, and Modi being a strong supporter of the Narmada Dam? The answer was a simple and obvious NO.

The first thing he said on television during the protest was that, he was not there for any political party nor against any party or individual, and also that he didn't have any intrest in politics and does not want to join it. That answered my first question as well.

Sadly he does not want to join politics. His last film preached about, not waiting for the difference to happen but being the difference. Apparently he considers himself only giving the message and leaving the 'being the difference' thing to others. Nothing wrong with that.

Also according to me he is among the best Actor in India if not the best. If you play all Shahrukh movies back to back, you will probably not realize where one ends and the next begins, cause the character he plays in all of them is pretty much the same. And according to me Salman isn't a actor at all. What were his movies with David Dhawan, in which he uses an American accent for his Hindi, about?

The word they use for Aamir as an actor is Versatile. I guess I will stick to it.(honestly dont know what it means.)

yeah thats true... I just wonder how come ppl even tolerate salmaan and govinda. Aamir is no doubt a versatile actor

yes, but the timing is a bit suspect ... seems like an awakening and an untimely one too...
he is 'rare' coz he's apparently 'intelligent' ... personally i dislike him - post-2nd marriage
and y the comment on salman, u cudve made ur point without mentioning that, rite?

@the bhandaris, versatile indeed.

@zaki, dont get what u mean by "is rare cause he is apparently intelligent", do u find him snobby, cause know ppl who do. yes and his second marriage was a bit of a shock, always thought of him as an ideal person, but then again it was a mutual divorce, unlike other 'nawabs'.
and hey, i had a valid point on salman, n this context, so someone here is a salman worshipper :)

no pratik - i meant that being intelliegent is not very common in the film industry..
& am certainly not that - as a matter of fact i wud say that u r a 'salman targetter'

Perestroika said...

Ohhhh man, a salman targetter!!what makes u think so, im certainly not.

hmm.. things have got hot here...well if aamir wants to do something for the tribals displaced by the narmada prj, its really good....but i kinda agree with zaki that the timing seems suspect!(untimely for sure)
As for Sallu, i personally feel leave him alone...already too many things r said abt him

@zaki and anirudh, what do u guys mean by 'timing seems to be a suspect'???

and the comment on sallu was not linked with ne other recent happenings in is life. also i dont know abt the indian medias dealing of the sallu issue, so dont confuse this wid tht context. the idea was just to compare the three khans who have been the most imp actors in India since the 90s.

the matter is going on for long now.. there have been numerous other 'social causes' which were conveniently sidelined by those in power ..
one fine day, aamir wakes up and realizes that injustice is being done against the 'displaced ppl' - how many months back was the rehabilation supposed to be done?
and he also claims tht he will support NGOs for all the social causes he finds real -- good morning world, I acted in rang de... and that has awakened the sleeping human in me!! puhleez....

and abt the salman cant act thing, and he has a pathetic accent , we cud argue that aamir is repetetive in his style .. see any of his movies u wont find him doing things any differently, probably the different effect is because of the different types of roles ...
bottonline - the actors are of different genres. u cant compare them (eg i still watch govinda-david dhawan combo movies wen am in a sad mood, ppl may argue they r crap.. but ) -- i think i made my point!!

common man, if someone is doin good, u cant argue tht he didnt do it before. and we cant say tht he supported the narmada cause just because he did rdb recently. maybe he realised he can contribute this time around.

point regarding different acting styles noted, but still dont you thing aamir does more meaningfull roles.

neways we can go on debating on this for ever.

Zaki M said...

we can continue... should we? ;)

Perestroika said...

we can :)

also one thing which i missed out on, was that, aamir khan had raised his voice, on gujarat iraq and opposed george bush several times before rdb too.

i knew u were going to say this - i did enjoy his spat with politicos post-riots :D
and i am specifically talking abt NBA
> abt meaningful roles - i believe there is art cinema for meaningful roles - commercial cinema is for entertaining and that too the common junta

Zaki M said...

y is rao silent?

Perestroika said...

specifically abt nba, he may have realized he can contribute this time around. flim stars are busy ppl. iam not defending aamir, no matter what. but, an actor of his strature earning 6 crores need not bother abt displaced tribals, but he did. none of the other flim stars seem bothered abt nething ever.
what i wanted to say regarding gujrat and iraq is tht, he has a history abt voicing his concern, this time he took one step ahead.

Zaki M said...

agreed.. and i am not out to attack aamir - though i wont mind doing it ;)

and i just mentioned abt the timing being suspect- i didnt say that it had hidden intentions behind, rite? its just that post-rangde every1 seems to have gotten into a nationalist mood

& many other actors do social work - ur frnd salman is one of them - that he doesnt publicize is a different thing

i am a lil late in joining this argument, but sallu cannot be an individual that one can be impressed with. Keeping his acting skills aside (which are not bad...if he means to act)..he doesnt strike as a very nice human being. The fact that you can drive drunk and kill people and then get jailed for killing wildlife doesnt show sallu in good light.

Hands down Aamir is a better actor, better human being (although questionable...doesnt go killing people and animals) and surely brilliant when it comes to picking up good movies.

The politics part is somethin i cant comment on.
